Running a group or leading a ride on MeetupMoto puts you in a position of trust. Members turn up because of something you posted. These are the standards that come with that.
Everything in our Usage and Content Policy applies to you too. This adds to it.
Leading rides
You are not a qualified ride leader unless you actually are one, and MeetupMoto does not make you one. We do not train, assess, licence or insure organisers. What we ask is that you lead sensibly:
- Describe the ride honestly — distance, pace, road type, terrain, and what machine it suits. A ride advertised as a relaxed run should not turn into a race.
- Say who it is for. If it is not suitable for new riders, small-capacity bikes or pillions, say so upfront rather than turning people away on the day.
- Brief before you set off — route, stops, pace, what happens if the group splits, and who is at the back.
- Never pressure anyone to keep up. Riders drop back for good reasons. Build in regroup points instead.
- Do not lead a ride that requires anyone to break the law to stay with the group.
- Do not lead impaired, and do not let a ride continue with someone who is.
- Have a plan for when something goes wrong — who stops, who calls, where the nearest help is.
If you are charging money, running something at scale, or operating commercially, look into proper insurance and any licences your country requires. That is on you, not on us.
Running a group
- Keep the group what it says it is. Members joined for a stated purpose. Do not quietly repurpose a group into something else, or into a channel for your business.
- Do not tamper. Do not take over a group in order to change its focus, shut it down, or strip out its content.
- Do not spam your members. Group messaging is for the group’s business, not for promotions.
- Moderate fairly. Apply your rules consistently, explain removals, and do not use moderation to settle personal scores.
- Membership criteria must be legitimate. You can restrict a group by machine, region, experience or interest. You cannot exclude people on the basis of race, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability or age.
- Hand over cleanly. If you are stepping down, pass the group to someone who will look after it, or tell us.
Looking after members
- Take safety concerns seriously and pass anything serious to us at [email protected].
- Member details you can see because you organise a group are for organising that group. Do not export them, sell them, or add them to a mailing list.
- Do not use your position to pursue members personally or romantically after they have made clear they are not interested.
If standards are not met
We may remove you as organiser, transfer or close a group, or close your account. We will normally talk to you first, unless there is an immediate risk to members.
