How MeetupMoto Came About?

The Story

As a group of motorcycle riders we like to travel and ride motorcycles of all different styles and genres. We of course own our own motorcycles at home and would generally ride out on them and plan some long distance rides. This is not always the case, if you travel for work or with the family or for any reason you can not take your Motorcycle then a great option is to rent a motorcycle.

When I was visiting Austin, TX i visited a Harley Davidson dealership and thought this would be a great time to rent and test the new Harley Davidson Street Glide at the time. Not knowing anything about Austin, TX as we are from the other side of the country, I asked the dealership If they could point me in the direction of great rides and roads to get the most out of my time with the bike. Of coarse they did this but is way to much info to take in and then set off on my way so I asked if there is a site or an app I can use that allows me to communicate with local riders so I can chat with them on the go… Also it would be preferred if I could locate riders not only by location but by bike make, model or genre, well you wouldn’t want to go ride out and hang out with sport bike riders if your riding around on a Harley Davidson Street Glide!

The result unfortunately the dealership advised me, if I was around they hold local events at the dealership for riders to come and network, or the only other option was to have a rummage around on the typically known big social media sites that already exist… Luckily some other Harley Davidson riders over heard and offered to take me out riding as they were on their way to a ride out through the back country and were happy to take me on some great rides and hit some cool hangouts and locations where other bikers meet.

Needless to say I had a great time and these great groups of local Harley Davidson riders saved what could have been a not very fruitful experience. When I returned home I then started to research was was already out there (Nothing), also what issues all needed to be addressed.

  • Find other riders by;
    Location, Bike Make, Experience, Gender, etc.
  • Find Local Groups
    by location, by brand, by needs such as;
    Specific Motorcycles, Club or Chapter, Motorcycle Build Project, Journalist, YouTuber, Meet Up, Brands and more.
  • Record Riders Adventure;
    Provide badges on the riders profile that allows the user to record their adventures from the events they attend the roads they ride or the destinations they hit.
  • Social Posting
    Riders needed similar functions to that of the already big existing social media platforms that already existed such as posting content into activity feeds.

The Official Biker Bucket List

We knew this would be a large project undertaking and knew we couldn’t do it alone. We then reached out to an organisation with the same ethos in encouraging riders to get out and ride. So we reached out to ‘The Official Biker Bucket List’, who already had started creating badges and rewarding and recording motorcyclists adventures using badges on profiles. You receive badges for tackling the best roads, attending motorcycle events like Sturgis and Daytona and attending great destinations.

Who are We?

With all this planning we created the MeetupMoto website and app, a motorcycle enthusiast social media platform with a specific twist. MeetupMoto social media platform is designed to allow riders to find each other, to find groups that are relevant to them, close the gap in brand segregation with a platform for all types and styles of riders, One place to go for what you want and to reward & encourage riders to do what they love most and that is to ride.
