Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco, California – A landmark in civil engineering and one of the USA’s most recognisable monuments, Golden Gate was the longest and tallest bridge of its kind when first completed in 1937. It’s become no less impressive with age, either, its mammoth orange span (4,200 feet; 1,280m) still soaring over the Golden Gate Strait.
