Mount Vernon, Virginia

Mount Vernon, near Alexandria, Virginia – This sprawling mansion was the home of George Washington, America’s first president. Perched on the banks of the Potomac River, Mount Vernon’s 21 rooms are immaculately preserved and fronted by extensive gardens. But this was also the site of Washington’s plantation where he enslaved men, women and children. Their story is told through a special exhibition, Lives Bound Together.
